ABOUT

Emerging as one of Australia’s most enchanting new voices, Cooper Lower is a Melbourne-based folk artist carrying the flame of influences such as Lior, Hozier, Ben Howard and Joni Mitchell.

Initially bursting onto the international folk scene as a virtuosic fingerstyle guitarist, Cooper spent years captivating audiences throughout the world with his songs and stories on renowned stages such as Queenscliff Music Festival, Tollwood Winterfestival (DE), Port Fairy Folk Festival, Melbourne International Guitar Night and Fretmonkey Records Guitarist Showcase (NY). A textbook folk troubadour, Cooper was twice named finalist for Folk Alliance’s Youth Artist of the Year.

During COVID, Lower transitioned into collaborative work and took a three year hiatus from his artist project. In 2024 he returned with Conversations, a five track EP recorded with renowned Polish producer/film composer Kris Gorski. Now on the cusp of releasing his debut album, Cooper’s maturity and sensitivity is on full display in this album entitled “reaching out, somehow”. Going straight for the heart, Lower is inviting listeners into an honest encounter with our shared currents of grief, rage, heartbreak, expression, vitality and desire.

A multi-disciplinary creative, Cooper also works extensively as a songwriter, producer and music director. He has gained a strong reputation for his exemplary lyrical prowess both in Australia and beyond, having recently co-written alongside artists such as Ainslie Wills, Riley Pearce, MOZË, Flynn Gurry, Eliza Hull, Fran Lusty, and in 2025, wrote the soundtrack for #1 Netflix feature Misie alongside renowned Polish composer Kris Gorski.
